Relationship of plasma volume to sympathetic tone in nulliparous women

Article Abstract:

Women who have less blood than normal may have a high risk of developing a serious complication of pregnancy called preeclampsia, according to a study of 40 women. When the body has less blood than normal, the heart beats harder to compensate. However, during pregnancy, the amount of blood increases. Women with this condition could develop high blood pressure during pregnancy, which is one of the symptoms of preeclampsia.

Sperm exposure and development of preeclampsia

Article Abstract:

Exposure to sperm can reduce a woman's risk of developing preeclampsia, according to a study of 339 pregnant women. Women who used a diaphragm or other barrier contraceptive method and had lived with the man for less than four months had a higher risk of preeclampsia than other women. Exposure to sperm may make a woman immune to sperm, thereby lowering her risk of preeclampsia.
