Reserachers identify taste receptors in human intestines

Article Abstract:

Researchers from Mount Sinai School of Medecine find taste receptor T1R3 and the taste G protein gustducin critical in human intestines. When carbohydrates are broken down into glucose, the two sweet-sensing proteins get stimulated and encourage the secretion of glucagonlike peptide-1, a hormone that plays an important role in the promotion of insulin secretion and appetite regulation. Findings of the study may pave the way for new treatements for diabetes and obesity.

How well does the health history form identify adolescent smokers?

Article Abstract:

A study on the accuracy of teenagers' reports of tobacco usage is discussed. Reports were collected regularly in the form of telephone interviews and chart audits. Teenagers wrongly report the tobacco usage, according to the study, which was conducted at HealthPartners in Bloomington, Minn. The reason behind this is because dental professionals do not educate adolescents about tobacco usage hazards.
