Room service

Article Abstract:

The 2 most important things to avoid to survive a fire in a hotel is smoke and panic. It is important to crawl on hands and knees as smoke accumulates at the ceiling and avoid irritating eyes. At arrival at the hotel it is important to establish where fire exits are and to keep a place for the key, such as by the bed. Doors should be closed as they protect personal belongings and prevent the spread of fire. If the fire is in the corridor put wet mattress up against the door. A wet towel around nose and mouth is effective. Always avoid lifts and phone the fire department.

Service under scrutiny

Article Abstract:

The UK Dept of Health is committed to swift and objective investigation of serious incidents within the mental health service, but has not tackled some of important issues arising from the inquiry process. There is no doubt that inquiries must take place to satisfy service users, staff and the public, attention should also be given to how the inquiry process affects the provision of service both nationally and locally. The nature of the investigation is also affected by the make-up of the inquiry panel.
