Waiting for guidelines: new antitrust policy will change marketplace

Article Abstract:

The healthcare industry is bracing itself for the announcement of new antitrust guidelines. The Justice Dept and the Federal Trade Commission are expected to announce the new antitrust guidelines sometime during Aug 1996. The new antitrust guidelines will probably have a substantial impact on health plans, hospitals, physicians, and insurers. One issue under scrutiny is the effect on competition relative to the size of physician networks.

New antitrust policy offers big gains for doctor networks

Article Abstract:

New antitrust guidelines bode well for doctor networks. The physician-friendly guidelines, which were released by the Justice Department and Federal Trade Commission in late Aug 1996, provide physicians with more autonomy to form fee-for-service networks and other ventures free of insurance risk. The American Medical Association is pleased with the revised guidelines.
