Self-reported heart disease and stroke among adults with and without diabetes -- United States, 1999-2001

Article Abstract:

Heart disease and stroke are two to three times more common among people with diabetes compared to the general population, according to data from the 1999-2001 National Health Interview Surveys. The National Diabetes Education Program hopes to educate diabetics about their higher than normal risk for cardiovascular disease and how they can lower this risk.

Statins and cancer risk-A meta-analysis

Article Abstract:

Statins are cholesterol-lowering drugs that are proven in randomized controlled trials to prevent cardiac events. Study is conducted to investigate the effect of statin therapy on cancer incidence and cancer death, and to analyze the effect of statins on specific cancers and the effects of statin lipophilicity or derivation.

Messenger molecules and cell death: Therapeutic implications

Article Abstract:

Therapeutic agents acting via cell death and cell protective pathways are becoming increasingly prominent. Prevention of cell death is of importance in stroke, myocardial infarction, and neurodegenerative conditions, while highly selective augmentation of cell death will be sought in anticancer drugs.
