Shaken and stirred

Article Abstract:

Pupils from schools in Walsall, UK, participated in a scheme involving a baby simulator. They had to care for the baby simulator for a week, day and night. When the baby cries it is pacified by use of a special key. Any maltreatment or neglect of the baby is measured by computer. Those involved in the project have to keep a diary of their feelings. The results show that young people involved in the programme change their attitude towards parenting.

A family affair

Article Abstract:

Families who experience a teenage pregnancy need the support of health visitors. In some families, in cases where the pregnant teenager's mother experienced a teenage pregnancy, the pregnancy is not seen as a problem. In others the situation is considered catastrophic. Health professionals need to be non-judgemental and approachable.
