Single-payer system doesn't look so bad these days

Article Abstract:

Physicians are increasingly considering the possibility that a single-payer healthcare system might be better than the managed-care arrangements under which many of them must now work. Many Canadian doctors are displeased with that country's government controlled, single-payer system, but managed care is presenting some US doctors and patients with problems perhaps as distressing as those encountered in Canada. Managed care's shortcomings are discussed.

Doctors give their thoughts on reform proposals

Article Abstract:

Analysis of health care reform is offered by a wide range of US physicians. For example, Dr. Louis Myers believes that rationing or raising taxes will be necessary to allow healthcare access for more people. Dr. Cheryl Whiteman suggests a government-sponsored system, but worries about inefficient government management. Dr. Richard Goldstein feels that more emphasis on preventative medicine would save money and improve the nation's health.

With an agenda for caring, we can make a difference

Article Abstract:

Doctors must keep in mind a few basic principles if they are to remain clear-sighted during this transitional time for US healthcare. An Agenda for Caring is a simple proposal that embodies these ideas. The agenda includes caring for patients by remaining competent and ethical, helping the profession by requiring fellow physicians to uphold high standards and aiding the community by working against violence and other social ills.
