Smoking and type 2 diabetes in men

Article Abstract:

Smoking may be a risk factor for type 2, or adult-onset, diabetes. In a study of 1,266 Japanese men, those who smoked more than 31 cigarettes a day were four times more likely to develop type 2 diabetes.

Size at birth, growth in childhood, and the risk for type 2 diabetes

Article Abstract:

Slow growth before birth followed by rapid growth during childhood may be a risk factor for type 2, or adult onset, diabetes, according to a study of over 7,000 people.

Smoking and kidney function in persons without diabetes

Article Abstract:

Smoking can affect kidney function adversely, even in people who are not diabetic. This was the conclusion of a study of 7,746 people without diabetes.
