Socioeconomic status differences in hormone therapy

Article Abstract:

Socioeconomic status (SES) correlates significantly with noncontraceptive hormone therapy. The lifetime incidence of noncontraceptive hormone therapy has been examined with the ways usage varied by type of reproductive organ surgery and bivariate and net associations between a large array of SES indicators and the likelihood of ever using hormones by 53-54 years of age were studied in a group of 3,612 non-Hispanic white females. A woman's earnings and household net work correlated positively with noncontraceptive hormone therapy. Association of the therapy with education was different among women who had a hysterectomy and/or oophorectomy, in that the odds were higher for less educated women, vs women with reproductive organs intact.

Geocoding and linking date from population-based surveillance and the US census to evaluate the impact of median household income on the epidemiology of invasive streptococcus pneumoniae infections

Article Abstract:

Researchers conducted a study to assess whether median household income is associated with risk of penicillin-nonsusceptible S. pneumoniae infections. Researchers geocoded and linked data from population-based surveillance for invasive pneumococcal disease with data from the 1990 US census. They found increasing proportions of penicillin-nonsusceptible isolates were associated with higher median household incomes.
