Source of knowledge: health professionals frequently need information about aspects ofpalliative care

Article Abstract:

Hospice and palliative care is offered by arange of agencies providing different types of care for different needs, and is supported by agrowing body of research, journals and professional associations. The Hospice InformationService based at St Christopher's Hospice provides a directory for the hospice movement guidingpeople to appropriate services and explaining terminology. Hospice care is mainly for patientswith advanced cancer and is free of charge. Some patients are cared for in their own homes byhospice home care services in conjunction with GPs.

Nursing and public health aspects of Mycobacterium marinum

Article Abstract:

Mycobacterium marinum infection can be found in natural pools, rivers, beaches, swimming pools, lakes, wells and fish tanks. It is only pathogenic on abraded skin, with the eruption starting as a single papule or a group of papules. Spontaneous healing often arises after a few months.

Nursing Times election manifesto

Article Abstract:

The United Kingdom is due for an election in 2001 and Nursing Times magazine has put forward its own election manifesto. This manifesto, which proposes eight point for nurses including better pay and salaries for students, is described.
