Contacts help workers keep an eye on safety

Article Abstract:

Companies and safety organizations are beginning to reconsider long-standing bans against contact lens-use within the workplace. Previous accidents involving contact lenses were very rare and were actually caused by other factors. Hard lenses used in the '60s have since been replaced by soft, rigid, low-water content and gas-permeable lenses that provide eyes with more protection, provided safety measures are followed. In most cases, they have been proven to enable people to work more efficiently.

Incentive programs: only the icing,, not the cake

Article Abstract:

Companies intending to introduce safety-incentive programs should reward employees for positive behaviour. Most programs are intended to cut the number of medical injuries or lost-time incidents, while improving safety awareness. However, some safety-incentive programs are based on not having recordable incidents when the goal should be to encourage participation in safety issues. Advice to companies wishing to set up safety-incentive programs is presented.
