Stroke risk emphasized in atrial fibrillation guidelines

Article Abstract:

The updated guidelines issued by the American Heart Association, American College of Cardiology, and the European Society of Cardiology suggests that clinicians need to prioritize stroke risk reduction when treating patients with atrial fibrillation. The updated guidelines addresses the overall treatment of atrial fibrillation and offer simple algorithms that would help clinicians determine optimal therapy courses for the various forms of the condition.

FDA oks nonprescription defibrillators

Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has granted consumer to purchase automatic external defibrillators (AEDs) for home use in case of sudden cardiac arrest without physiciansE prescription. Defibrillators treat ventricular fibrillation that is the most common cause of sudden cardiac arrest.
