Study: one channel blocker may trigger heart problems

Article Abstract:

Short-acting calcium channel blocker isradipine may put high blood pressure patients at greater risk for major vascular activity, according to the Sept 11, 1996 issue of Journal of the American Medical Assn. Compared to diuretic hydrochlorothiazide, researchers at the Bowman Gray School of Medicine found a higher incidence of angina, sudden death, myocardial infarction, stroke and congestive heart failure with isradipine in a study of 883 patients.

Little danger from sex after heart attack

Article Abstract:

The May 8, 1996 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Assn includes a report that concludes that patients with coronary heart disease do not have to worry about having a heart attack from sex. Although there is a small increased risk in the two hours following sexual activity, this risk is the same for patients who do not have coronary heart disease as for those who do.

Public still back war on drugs despite little success

Article Abstract:

Americans continue to support 'War on Drugs' policies and programs even though they feel such programs have been ineffective, according to researchers who reviewed 47 national surveys of public opinion. Americans are willing to pay more taxes to support anti-drug programs. The majority of Americans also support the legalization of drugs and policies for medical marijuana.
