Prepared meals available in a Supermarkets delicatessen section vary in how healthy they are. Healthy choices include grilled chicken, roast beef, pork tenderloin, and sushi. Relatively healthy choices include spaghetti and meatballs, meat loaf, chicken marsala, peas, and corn. Not so healthy choices include pot pie, and lasagna with meat sauce. Side dishes are ranked by how healthy they are.

Functional foods have extra ingredients, such as ginkgo, ginseng or echinacea, that are supposedly beneficial to health. However, there is little label information to tell how much of these ingredients the food actually contains. There is probably too little of the healthy ingredient to provide health benefits, and better sources exist.
