Systolic hypertension in older persons

Article Abstract:

The objective of this study is to systematically assess the literature on clinical management of systolic hypertension (SH) in older persons. The treatment decisions were found more sensitive to patients preferences and tolerance of therapy because the treatment of SH in older patients with systolic blood pressure (SBP) of at least 160 mm Hg are supported by strongly evidence whereas patients with baseline SBP of 140-159 mm Hg have less strong support evidence.

Realizing the promise of genomics in biomedical research

Article Abstract:

The health and societal implications of genomic medicine as well as the current and future genome initiatives are presented. Genomics has already begun to affect global health by offering novel approaches to diseases that haunt the developing world and has changed society to some extent by altering the societal discussion of race and ethnicity.

Using pharmacogenetics to improve drug safety and efficacy

Article Abstract:

The study demonstrates the impact of genetic variation in the 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-CoA reductase (HMGCR) drug target for the popular class of drugs and translates these findings into the clinical settings. The feasibility of alternatives therapies or doses for those with relevant HMGCR variants is discussed.
