The 21st century nurse executive

Article Abstract:

The 21st century nurse executive must be prepared to meet the challenges of nursing management in a rapidly changing field. Nurse executives must adopt data sets for clinical nursing practice and management, assess nursing outcomes and demonstrate the nursing care's value, embrace new communication and data processing technologies, think in terms of system-wide information management, expand and extend nursing care, build collaborative communities, rethink traditional nursing practice models, become a life-long learner, and conceptualize nursing as a business.

From nurse to nursing informatics consultant: a lesson in entrepreneurship

Clinical information systems consultants are some of the most important occupations emerging in nursing. Health care services are unique, since they involve risk assessment of people's lives, and nurse consultants combine the skills of critical thinking, sympathy, accepting responsibility and caring. Nurses considering entrepreneurial paths will want to acquire the skills that make them successful consultants.

This can be accomplished through empowering the workforce, utilizing flexible processes and structure and improving customer focus.
