The Eurocode 2 food coding system

Article Abstract:

The Eurocode system is intended as an instrument for nutritional surveys. Consisting of the Eurocode 1, Eurocode 2 and Descriptor Systems, the whole system is integrative. Eurocode 2 consists of a alpha-numerical listing of foods in four fields. The code for each food item is unique and is listed under only one group. The field structure includes the main group, subgroup first level, subgroup second level and national recipe code.

Rationale document for the Eurocode 2 food coding system (version 91/2)

Article Abstract:

A common classification scheme for foods such as Eurocode 2 enables food scientists in Europe to conduct relevant assessments for overall nutritional intake based on food consumption surveys. A specifically described system is considered more efficient than a general one as this leads to complex systems that hinder categorization of additional foods and is more susceptible to many interpretations.

Measurement error in dietary data: implications for the epidemiologic study of the diet-disease relationship

Article Abstract:

It is widely known that measuring dietary data in the population is extremely difficult and measurement errors are common. A new study investigates the effect of measurement error on diet-body mass index association. It is shown that dietary data measurement error may significantly reduce the diet-disease association.
