Occupational fatigue and preterm premature rupture of membranes

Article Abstract:

Pregnant women who work long hours or have other sources of occupational fatigue have a higher risk of premature rupture of membranes, according to a study of 2,929 women. However, this risk only occurred in women in their first pregnancy.

The Preterm Prediction Study: can low-risk women destined for spontaneous preterm birth be identified?

Article Abstract:

It may be difficult to predict which pregnant women at low risk of premature birth will give birth prematurely. In a study of 2,197 pregnant women, fetal fibronectin levels, Bishop score, and cervix length were not accurate enough to predict premature birth.

The preterm prediction study: a clinical risk assessment system

Article Abstract:

Current scoring systems to assess a pregnant woman's risk of preterm delivery may not be adequate. Researchers evaluated 2929 pregnant women for their risk of preterm delivery. Preterm deliveries occurred in 10.4% of assessed women. Women who were black, had a poor social environment, and who worked during pregnancy were more likely to deliver preterm if this was their first child. Previous preterm delivery was the most important predictor of subsequent preterm delivery. The scoring system could be used to evaluate new technologies designed to predict preterm delivery.
