The Trouble with Families: Toward an Ethic of Accommodation

Article Abstract:

Medical personnel are ultimately responsible for the welfare of their patients, but family members may also demand attention, information, and input. Family members may act as caregivers, and certainly influence the patient's psychological state, home life, and personality. Families can increase the level of stress in a physician-patient relationship, particularly if they disagree with aspects of care. Although a competent patient ultimately decides the direction of care, involving family members in care and treatment decisions and keeping them informed may ultimately contribute to a patient's health and comfort.

Strength training: keeping your muscles working for you

Article Abstract:

The body's muscles, of which there are more than 600, need regular exercise to sustain muscle mass. Strength training exercises can contribute to maintenance of bone mineral density and balance. Routing physical training, also, helps control weight because muscles burn three times as many calories as fat uses to sustain itself. Exercises involving leg squats, wall push-ups and toe raises are shown.
