The changing face of primary care across the UK

Article Abstract:

UK nurses' views are being promoted by the Community Practitioners' and Health Visitors' Association (CPHVA), in an attempt to make sure they have a relevant role to play in the re-organisation of the National Health Service (NHS). The government is introducing primary care groups which will encourage the practice of partnering between health providers, such as general practioners, nurses and health authorities. The formation of devolved assemblies in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales is expected to result in different service models for each country.

A positive contribution

Article Abstract:

The work of the mental health nurse is to provide emotional and psychological support for patients who have suffered due to HIV/AIDS or substance abuse. People in this health category are sometimes blamed for their illness because society questions their lifestyle. The mental health nurse can help by building a one-to-one relationship with the patient so that they can begin to understand the emotional and psychological situation. The patient becomes empowered, and significant health benefits are possible.

New culture in dementia care

Article Abstract:

There are many opportunities available to nurses in the UK in the area of caring for people with dementia. Nursing practice in this field is now much more positive and patient-centred than in the past, and the situation is also improving as public awareness of dementia increases. A key role of nurses dealing with people with dementia is to ensure that they can remain independent for as long as possible.
