The check is in the mail ... and other tales patients tell. Here are some proven ways to get paid quicker

Article Abstract:

A number of techniques can be employed by physicians and their staff to encourage prompt payment of patients' bills. The office staff should work as a team, institute uniform collection policies and pay close attention to past-due accounts. In addition, receptionists should know how to respond to patient red flags such as a missing telephone number on a medical form. During the office visit, the medical staff should explain payment policies in a clear, upbeat manner and be prepared to gently insist that patients pay. Several techniques for collecting past-due bills are presented.

Some new doctors can't find jobs

Article Abstract:

New doctors are finding difficulty securing full-time positions upon graduation. Pathology and plastic surgery have the highest unemployment rates for new graduates at 10.8% and 9.9% respectively. The oversupply of physicians is causing the medical community to consider closing medical schools and reducing the scope of several medical programs. The Association of American Medical Colleges favors reducing programs rather than closing schools entirely.
