The effects on ovarian activity of a monophasic oral contraceptive with 100 micrograms levonorgestrel and 20 micrograms ethinyl estradiol

Article Abstract:

An oral contraceptive containing 100 micrograms of levonorgestrel and 20 micrograms of estradiol appears to suppress ovulation effectively. This contraceptive has a lower dose of estradiol than traditional contraceptives because high doses have been linked to abnormal blood clotting.

A multicenter randomized comparison of cycle control and laboratory findings with oral contraceptive agents containing 100 micrograms levonorgestrel with 20 micrograms ethinyl estradiol or triphasic norethindrone with ethinyl estradiol

Article Abstract:

An oral contraceptive with only 20 micrograms of estradiol appears to be as effective as one with a 75% higher dose of estradiol. Pharmaceutical companies have tried to lower the dose of estradiol because higher doses have been linked to abnormal blood clotting.

Effects of low-dose monophasic levonorgestrel with ethinyl estradiol preparation on serum lipid levels: a twenty-four-month clinical trial

Article Abstract:

An oral contraceptive that contains only 20 micrograms of estradiol appears to have no adverse effect on blood lipid levels. This dose of estradiol is lower than traditional contraceptives because high estradiol doses have been linked to abnormal blood clotting.
