The impact of United States law on medicine as a profession

Article Abstract:

Changes in the laws governing the practice of medicine since the 1950s are reviewed. Topics include the no duty-to-treat principle, emergency hospital care and the Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act (EMTALA), civil rights laws, legal liability for medical negligence, the evolution of a standard of care, medical price fixing, and staff privileges.

How physicians can change the future of health care

Article Abstract:

A strategy is proposed for reforming the health care policy that will be led by physicians and will focus on improving health and health care value for patients. The value-based competition has provided a way for reform that recognizes the role of health professionals at the heart of the healthcare system, thereby enabling health and effective care.

NIH eases ethics rules on employees: Consulting ban to remain

Article Abstract:

The final ethical rules determined by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) have been slackened in response to complaints from its employees about the stringency of the earlier regulations. External interaction with professional or scientific institutes is permitted, but consultation with health-related organizations continues to be banned.
