The mammary gland iodide transporter is expressed during lactation and in breast cancer

Article Abstract:

Research demonstrates the presence of a unique sodium/iodide symporter in healthy lactating mammary glands and their participation in the accumulation of iodide by mammary adenocarcinomas. Data indicate that this is not seen in the nonlactating types suggesting that mammary gland symporter can be a useful marker for breast cncer diagnosis.

Predicting the future of breast cancer

Article Abstract:

The level of the cyclin E protein and its isoforms in breast cancer tissues are considered to be predictors of the efficacy of the drug therapy and the outcome of such primary treatments. Research evaluates two methods used to measure cyclin E namely immunohistochemical assays or western blot analysis and DNA microarrays.

Transporter of a malaria catastrophe

Article Abstract:

Amantadine, a proton-channel blocker used to treat influenza is also useful in stopping the growth of the malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum. The molecular basis of this enhanced activity is examined and new ways to attack chloroquine resistance is explored.
