The management of bone infection in orthopaedic patients

Article Abstract:

A combined surgical and medical approach is required in the treatment of patients with a musculoskeletal infection. It is important to have access to high quality bacteriological, radiological and histopathological diagnostic facilities, as well as to nurses highly trained in vascular access, wound care, orthopaedic nursing and infection control. The categories of musculoskeletal infection are acute or chronic osteomyelitis, spinal infections, septic arthritis, infected arthroplasties and diabetic foot infections.

Nursing input in ilizarov fixation: development of external fixation for orthopaedic patientshas put new demands on nurses

Article Abstract:

The Ilizarovtechnique involves an external fixation frame attached to a bone in orthopaedic surgery. Regularadjustments to the frame can be made by the patient by turning nuts that connect the half-pinsand rods. It is used to treat severe fractures, osteomylitis and non-united fractures, and relies onfull patient cooperation.
