Sex differences in academic advancement: results of a national study of pediatricians

Article Abstract:

Many women pediatricians are not participating in activities that could lead to promotion. This was the conclusion of a survey of 4,285 pediatricians at 126 US academic medical centers. There were fewer women than men at every rank but especially at the senior ranks. Women tended to spend more time teaching and caring for patients than doing research. Even when women achieved the same rank as men, they did not receive the same salary. Women who participated in research and other activities still reported dissatisfaction with their institutional support.

Crisis in Niger - Outpatient care for severe acute malnutrition

Article Abstract:

Numerous people in Niger face chronic food insecurity, but the year 2005 was much more worse than usual as in March 2005 severely malnourished children began pouring into the Medecins sans Frontieres (MSF) feeding center. MSF saw effects of this crisis as more than 60,000 children with severe malnutrition were admitted between January and November 2005 and 3000 more in September.
