Treatment of rheumatoid arthritis by selective inhibition of T-cell activation with fusion protein CTLA4Ig

Article Abstract:

An experimental drug called CTLA4Ig may benefit many patients with rheumatoid arthritis, especially those who do not respond to methotrexate. This was the conclusion of a study of 339 patients, all of whom were also taking methotrexate. CTLA4Ig was more effective than a placebo, or inactive substance. This drug prevents T cells from becoming activated.
