The trophoblast is a component of the innate immune system during pregnancy

Article Abstract:

The trophoblast organizes the immune response to invading pathogens at the maternal-placental interface during pregnancy, according to a study in mice. This response involves colony stimulating factor-1, which induces the trophoblast to produce neutrophil chemoattractants and macrophage inflammatory protein-2.

Neurons tame T cells

Article Abstract:

Multiple sclerosis is an autoimmune disease that occurs when immune cells attack the central nervous system (CNS) and destroy myelin. Experiments in a mouse model of the disease suggest that neurons fight back by inducing regulatory T cells that dampen the immune response.

Cellular immune responses persist and humoral responses decrease two decades after recovery from a single-source outbreak of hepatitis C

Article Abstract:

The presence of helper and cytotoxic T cells against hepatitis C virus may be a marker of a previous exposure to the virus. In a study of 43 women who had recovered from hepatitis C about 20 years before, all had HCV-specific T cells but no HCV-specific antibodies.
