The wonder of ICU

Article Abstract:

Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Sister Wendy Adams devised a new form of care plan for her ICU at Greenwich District Hospital, London, England. Nurses had previously completed care plans once a week but Adams instituted a more regularly-used assessment and evaluation scheme. Nurses use free text to describe the condition of patients but subheadings guide their thinking. The ICU officially implemented the scheme in May 1999 as the response to testing of the scheme was positive. Nurses now assess patients at the beginning of each 12-hour duty and evaluate the care at the end of their duty.

Child health in the community

Article Abstract:

Nursing children in the community covers a wide range of vocations such as cancer care, school nursing or child health specialist. Dealing with children and parents in the community needs specialist skills in communication and medicine. Many UK health authorities are developing the job of child nursing into a fully qualified paediatric role within the community, with full backing from the Royal College of Nursing.
