Time will be of the essence in treating Alzheimer disease

Article Abstract:

Study is presented to estimate the interactive effects of normal aging and presence of the apolipoprotein E (APOE*4) allele on cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) A(beta)42 concentration in adults with normal cognition across the life span. The goal is to sequence the genomes of families with and without Alzheimer disease and to seek polymorphisms in a small subset of genes that increase the chances of risk or are causal of disease.

Killing pain, killing neurons?

Article Abstract:

Results from several placebo-controlled clinical treatment trials indicate that the nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) fail to avoid the risk of developing Alzheimer disease. Moreover, one class of NSAIDs, the cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) inhibitors, is shown to cause side-effects including an increase in heart attacks and strokes in patients.

Classification and prediction of clinical Alzheimer's diagnosis based on plasma signaling proteins

Article Abstract:

The article presents the importance of 18 plasma signaling proteins in classifying and predicting the correct diagnosis for Alzheimer's disease. Such tests are expected to lead to the development of better treatments and therapies.
