Tolerability of enteric-coated didanosine capsules compared with Didanosine tablets in adults with HIV infection

Article Abstract:

The authors report on tests of an enteric-coated capsule of didanosine (ddI) to determine if this form would cause fewer side effects than the ddI buffered tablets. The side effects of ddI -- nausea, bloating, diarrhea, cramps, and gas -- have been generally been considered as the result of the buffering used in the formulation. The tests showed the enteric-coated form was much better tolerated by HIV patients.

Active simian immunodeficiency virus (strain smmPGm) infection in macaque central nervous system correlates with neurologic disease

Article Abstract:

Simian immunodeficiency virus strain smmPGm can induce neuropathology in macaques and is a model for the development of human HIV-related brain injury. The results are consistent with the hypothesis that active virus expression in the central nervous system is strongly correlated with neurologic disease and that the event occurs at variable periods after infection.

Antiretroviral durability and tolerability in HIV-infected adults living in urban Kenya

Article Abstract:

The outcomes of antiretroviral therapy (ART) in HIV-infected adults in urban Kenya are investigated focusing on ART management, toxicity and clinical follow up. It is observed that the responses to ART is excellent but the frequent switches in ART among medication classes because of toxicity or drug interactions limits the durability of the responses.
