Trends in adult medical admissions in a rural South African hospital between 1991 and 2002

Article Abstract:

The changes in number and type of hospital admissions to the medical wards of a small rural district hospital in Northern KwaZulu/Natal, South Africa, between 1991 and 2002 are studied. Comprehensive strategies are needed to reduce the community burden of disease and minimize the impact of HIV on the health services.

Health-related quality of life with enfuvirtide (ENF; T-20) in combination with an optimized background regimen

Article Abstract:

The impact of enfuvirtide on health-related quality of life (HRQoL) is being assessed. Patients enrolled in 2 phase 3 trials T-20 versus optimized regimen only (TORO 1 and 2) completed the medical outcomes study (MOS)-HIV questionnaire at baseline and at 4,8,16 and 24 weeks.

The utility of a bone marrow biopsy in diagnosing the source of fever of unknown origin in patients with AIDS

Article Abstract:

A bone marrow (BM) aspiration and biopsy is often believed to be a needed diagnotic procedure in the work-up of patients with fever of unknown origin (FUO) is discussed. The majority of BN biopsies in this series revealed diagnostic features of infections.
