Trying to get more women in clinical trials

Article Abstract:

The US Food and Drug Administration proposed a rule in Sep 1997 that would ensure that women would not be excluded from clinical trials if they had a life threatening disease just because they are of childbearing age. There is concern that drug trials that do not have an adequate amount of women in the study will be unable to generalize about the effects of these drugs on women. The American Medical Assn wants to ensure that the health of men and women is promoted by adequate funding for medical research on both sexes.
