Ultrasound-guided laser treatment for fetal bladder outlet obstruction resulting from ureterocele

Article Abstract:

The case of a pregnant 16-year-old girl is reported whose 28-week-old baby had hydronephrosis from a ureterocele. A ureterocele is a cyst in one of the ureters that transport urine from the kidneys to the bladder. If the cyst is large enough, it will block the ureter. This causes urine to collect inside the kidneys, a condition that is called hydronephrosis. This patient's baby was successfully treated prenatally with laser surgery.
