Uniform disclosure for health insurance: it's about time

Article Abstract:

Consumers need the protection of uniform disclosure laws when choosing health insurance. At present, it is very difficult to get the information needed to compare health plans meaningfully. All health insurers should be required to present such information in a standardized format. New York and Arizona already have such laws, and Colorado legislators are working on one. Let patients make informed decisions, and market forces will determine the form of future health care delivery.

Gatekeepers on trial: primary care liability risks are rising with growth of managed care

Article Abstract:

The increase in managed health care has brought about an increase in liability for primary care physicians that are participating in such plans. However, the extent of the problem is yet to be determined because there is typically a delay between actions, claims and settlements. Patients are filing claims when plans promise care coordination and do not follow through, although in some cases the care takers are not found to be liable.

Health plan releases report cards on doctor groups

Article Abstract:

The results of a survey by California's Health Net are being used to reward its network physicians for improvements in quality of care. A survey was sent out to more than 100,000 of the plan's 2.2 million enrollees, with the resulting data used to rate physicians as excellent, very good or good. Health Net will not use the data to terminate any physician contracts.
