Unlikely partners tackle TB funding woes

The public-private partnerships (PPPs) funded by governments and organizations are negotiating deals with pharmaceutical companies that have found promising drug leads for diseases like tuberculosis. Small biotech companies and academic organizations are also forming partnerships for sponsoring clinical trials of two drugs, looking for a better preventive vaccine and searching for cheaper, more reliable ways to detect TB and other diseases.

US policy keeps drugs out of reach in clinical trials abroad

Article Abstract:

The US National Institutes of Health (NIH) will fund trials to test the best treatment for HIV/AIDS and other diseases but will not buy drugs for these trials. The agency cannot provide the drugs because if it continues to provide drugs for patients' treatment after studies ended, it wouldn't have the money to fund research trials.
