Use of study days to develop the healthcare assistant role

Article Abstract:

The Department of Health's strategies to fight staff shortages and an ageing workforce have turned their emphasis on the delivery of patient care by healthcare assistants (HCAs). The method of how a trust redesigned the role of HCAs and implemented a study day in order to enhance both theoretical knowledge and clinical practice for this role are described, and plans for the regulation of the HCA role are expected to be formalized in 2007.

Can a new pension scheme prevent staff shortages?

Article Abstract:

The benefits of the revised pension scheme, which is expected to provide more flexibility to the nurses, as they start approaching the retirement age is described. The author says that though the new scheme will help in reducing the staff shortages, more strategies need to be implemented to reduce retirement.
