Vasomotor flushes in menopausal women

Article Abstract:

Combining an androgen with estrogen therapy for postmenopausal women may control hot flashes and other menopausal symptoms. Androgens are male sex hormones. Combination androgen-estrogen therapy may be especially beneficial in women who develop menopause after their ovaries are removed.

Patient profile 1: unresolved vasomotor symptoms with conventional hormone replacement therapy

Article Abstract:

A case is presented of a 55-year-old woman who experienced relief of her hot flashes when she began taking estrogen-androgen therapy. Her symptoms did not respond to traditional estrogen replacement therapy. Androgens are male sex hormones.

Patient profile 3: decreased libido and bone mineral density in a naturally menopausal woman

Article Abstract:

A case is reported of a 67-year-old woman who began taking estrogen-androgen replacement therapy. She had been postmenopausal for 17 years and had stopped estrogen replacement therapy. The estrogen-androgen combination was very effective.
