Umbilical artery Doppler screening for detection of the small fetus in need of antepartum surveillance

Article Abstract:

It may not be necessary to monitor fetuses with intrauterine growth restriction if the umbilical artery systolic to diastolic ratio and amniotic fluid volume are normal. This was the conclusion of a study of 138 fetuses.

Venous Doppler in the prediction of acid-base status of growth-restricted fetuses with elevated placental blood flow resistance

Article Abstract:

The venous Doppler parameter offering the best prediction of acid-base status at birth in pregnancies complicated by intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) caused by placental dysfunction is identified. Inferior vena cava (IVC), ductus venousus (DV) and umbilical vein (UV) flow patterns are useful for prediction of acid-base status in intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) fetuses.

Neonatal nucleated red blood cell counts in growth-restricted fetuses: relationship to arterial and venous Doppler studies

Article Abstract:

An increase in nucleated red blood cells seems to be associated with deterioration of the circulatory system in fetuses with intrauterine growth restriction. Nucleated red blood cells are usually a sign that the fetus has been exposed to very low levels of oxygen.
