Want to fix Medicare? Here are some suggestions

Article Abstract:

Michigan's Physician Primary Sponsor Plan (PSP) started in 1982 provides other states that are considering a partially capitated Medicaid program with a successful model to follow. PSP enrollees have an average monthly cost that is 24% lower than that for fee for service (FFS) enrollees. Quality is better with PSP, and enrollees have a lower emergency room utilization rate than FFS enrollees. Additional benefits of Michigan's PSP program are discussed.

Medicaid won't be fixed until social problems are

Article Abstract:

The American Medical Association and the American Academy of Pediatrics should advocate for large-scale programs which address the social problems of Medicaid recipients. Drugs, accidents, teen-age pregnancy, poor nutrition, environmental toxins and poverty are examples of external factors which are raising medical expenses. All children should be assigned to qualified pediatricians to ensure continuity of care and case management.

What should be done to protect Medicaid? Plenty

Article Abstract:

There are several ways in which Medicaid can be protected. Performance standards can be established, funding guidelines should be established and reevaluated for future projections and the screening program should be maintained. Insurance reform, Medicaid interstate equity, separate funding for separate programs within Medicaid and uniform eligibility guidelines for all the states should also be implemented.
