Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle proposed to take $200 million from the stateEs Patient Compensation Fund for helping offset a $454 million budget deficit. Physicians in the state fear that their low medical liability insurance rates are put at risk by the governorEs plan to deal with the state budget deficit.

Tort reform clears House, moves forward in states

Article Abstract:

The U.S. House of Representatives in March 2003 passed a tort reform that includes a $250,000 cap on non-economic damages. Tort reform actions at the federal and state level are blooming quickly as physician medical liability rallies, protests and old-fashioned lobbying are paying off.
