To expand or contract?: Complementary therapies are widely used in the NHS, but should health professionals widen their skills to encompass them or is it better to use qualified contract staff?

Article Abstract:

Complementary medicine is already available on the NHS but there are concerns as to whether it should be provided by health professionals, or by qualified contract practitioners. Many complementary medicine practitioners working in the NHS are employed in GP practices, but problems arise when health professionals want to introduce complementary therapies, but have no knowledge of the field.

A long way to go

Article Abstract:

The Work Well campaign was launched in June 1995 to help nurses, health visitors and midwives improve their work environment. A survey of 145 people shows that most nurses believe they should be able to influence the policy for delivery of health-care services. The level of awareness of the Health at Work initiative needs to be raised.
