The Anti-Drug Abuse Act of 1986 has resulted in women getting longer sentences than men. Women who are the girlfriends or wives of drug trafficking men usually get longer sentences because of the law's mandatory schedule of sentences and because they do not have the information to trade to shorten their sentences.
