Young people at breaking point

Article Abstract:

The UK Samaritans Week 1997 is focusing on depression and the risk of suicide amongst young people. Statistics show that suicide accounts for 20% of deaths in the 15-24 age group. The organization has launched a video on emotional issues, aimed at 10 and 11-year-olds, and a report on its research into attitudes amongst young people. The report indicates trends, including a failure by young people to understand depression, and higher suicide risk levels amongst certain groups, including young Asian women, young people with difficult family lives, and people with a drug or alcohol dependency.
