Your pap smear: a save-your-life guide

Article Abstract:

Pap smear test results can be made more accurate by submitting to it one week after the end of the menstrual period because red blood cells dilute cervical cells in a smear. Women are also advised to give out even the private but necessary information to the screener.

A woman can ensure a more accurate Pap smear by having it done mid-cycle, avoiding sex for 12 hours before the test and and refraining from douching for three days before the test. The doctor should be informed of the type of birth control being used.
