Zidovudine and stavudine sequencing in IHV treatment planning: findings from the CHORUS HIV cohort

Article Abstract:

HIV patients should be given zidovudine first, then stavudine, rather than vice versa. This was the conclusion of a study of 940 HIV patients, 834 of whom began with zidovudine and 106 of whom began with stavudine.

Effect of persistent moderate viremia on disease progression during HIV therapy

Article Abstract:

Although highly active antiretroviral therapy has been shown to lower plasma HIV-1 RNA in HIV infection, many patients do not reach the target goal of undetectable viremia. Patients with HIV-1 RNA levels > 20000 copies/mL at baseline had greater clinical and immunologic deterioration.

Relation of stavudine discontinuation to anthropometric changes among HIV-infected women

Article Abstract:

The changes in regional anthropometry associated with stavudine exposure and discontinuation are examined in HIV-infected women. The HIV-infected women have shown reduction in weight and body circumference measurements, regardless of continuing or discontinuing stavudine and the lower limb is most affected by stavudine exposure, with stabilization observed more than 2 years after discontinuation.
