Technological infrastructure and regional economic development of biotechnology firms

Article Abstract:

Research shows that entrepreneurs have set up numerous small and medium-scale companies in the biotechnology sector and global industrial competition has multiplied as a result. Senior executives and scientists from 37 biotechnology companies were interviewed to assess their firm's origin, resources, distribution patterns and business associations. Biotechnology investments are encouraged by local communities and regional economic development policies are being evolved with a focus on global markets.

Technological growth in the Italian economy: some indicators compared

Article Abstract:

The reliability of technological indicators in Italy is evaluated using 20 product groups divided arbitrarily. Results show that the most commonly used indicators used yielded different values. This lack of concordance assumes significance for the reliability of results derived for these indicators. Thus, it is necessary to resolve these so that the indicators will effectively chart the technological progress.
