Technology transfer basic research and industry

Article Abstract:

The competitiveness of an industry is heavily dependent on the rate of technology transfer between the scientific community and the industry itself. An analysis of technology transfer between basic research and industry was conducted to determine its efficiency and impact on innovation. It was revealed that most transfer schemes failed to generate substantial practical applications. The study suggests that more interaction and collaboration between the scientific community and industry is needed to boost the development of practical applications of new technology.

The information content of technology transfers: a transactions cost analysis of the machine tool industry

Article Abstract:

The relationship between the information content of technology transfers and their organizational form is examined. A method of characterizing the information content of machine tool technology transfers is developed and is then tested against a set of data from the US, Germany and the UK. The results show that transactions cost analysis can explain and predict the differences between the information content of licensed and internalized transfers of technology in the machine tool industry.
