Republican congressman Vernon J. Ehlers has served Michigan traditionally Republican Third District in the US House of Representatives since 1994, and is reelected by a wide margin six times. He defeated his Democratic challenger, Pete Hickey, with 67 percent of vote in the 2004 elections.
