Multi-awarded pop music singer James Brown has influenced black music since the late 1950s. Born on May 3, 1933 in Barnwell, SC, Brown rose from poverty to international fame and wealth. Although he suffered financial reversals and a prison sentence, he has made a successful comeback.

Richard Dyer-Bennet died Dec 14, 1991, at his home in Monterey, MA. Dyer-Bennet was a minstrel tenor who was an early participant in the mid-twentieth century revival of folk music.
